The Metuchen Inn is a landmark in Metuchen and Middlesex County New Jersey. Built in 1843, this historic structure was at various times an inn, brothel, and speakeasy. Since the 20th century the Inn has been a restaurant focusing on fine dining. Around 2010, the Inn was badly damaged in a fire. During subsequent reconstruction,  JFS Engineering worked with Thomas Baio, Architect to permit the renovation.

Our scope of work focused on lighting design for the existing parking lot. We performed an analysis of the existing light levels onsite and developed a design to meet municipal site lighting standards. Special attention was paid to installing shielding to limit direct glare into the homes adjacent to the parking lot. Using off-the-shelf residential grade fixtures, we were able to increase the lighting levels at the parking lot to meet the residential driveway lighting standard.

The proposed design also incorporated a low-level backlighting for continuous use overnight. Backlighting accentuates activity in the parking lot and provides ambient lighting for police and security cameras.
